The Resurrection Gate (also known as the Iberian Gate)

The only surviving gate of Moscow’s historic Kitay-gorod wall, serving as the ceremonial entrance to the Red Square from Manege Square. Originally constructed in 1535 and rebuilt in 1680 with distinctive twin towers and a double-headed eagle motif, the gate and the adjacent Iverskaya Chapel were demolished in 1931 by the Soviet regime to allow heavy military vehicles to pass through the square during parades. Both structures were meticulously reconstructed between 1994 and 1996 under the leadership of Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov and architect Oleg Zhurin, with a new icon of the Iveron Theotokos painted on Mount Athos to replace the original sacred image. The site is located between the State Historical Museum and the former Moscow City Hall (now the Museum of the Patriotic War of 1812) and marks the "kilometre zero" of the Russian highway system.
